Basic Moves

Children’s physical activity is becoming one of the most important issues of the early 21st century. Although many physical activity opportunities are now available to them, concerns about children’s inactivity and obesity are on the increase. It has never been more important for schools and communities to offer activity programmes that are not only fun, safe and worthwhile but also help children develop a solid foundation for a lifetime of physical activity. The Basic Moves Programme has been developed for this very reason.

What is the Basic Moves Programme?

The Basic Moves Programme helps all children develop the traveling, object control and balance movements that are so important for an active life. Without these important movement skills, many activities are just not available to children, adolescents and adults. Developing children’s basic movements must not be left to chance. Furthermore, as childhood is the best time to learn these movements, the Basic Moves Programme has been developed for children in the pre-school and infant school years and is delivered in school PE, in extra-curricular clubs and in community activities, including play. Basic Moves classes are not only enjoyable, they are worthwhile, developmentally appropriate and for all children.

The Basic Moves NATIONAL Training Programme

The Basic Moves Level 1 training course is a two-day intensive programme. It introduces course members to the background to Basic Moves and the Basic Moves Framework. It will also develop their knowledge and understanding of how children develop basic movement competence and how this is best achieved in different settings. The course is accompanied by the Basic Moves (Level 1) Training Manual.

The Basic Moves Level 2 training course is a two–day intensive programme that compliments and extends Basic Moves Level 1 by focusing on the role of basic moves within a broader developmental and integrated physical activity/education framework. The course is accompanied by the Basic Moves (Level 2) TrainingManual.

The Basic Moves Tutor training course is for those professionals wishing to tutor Basic Moves Level 1 training courses.
