Newbottle Primary School and East Herrington Primary School represented Sunderland in the Tyne and Wear SSP Year 5/6 Mini Hockey Final on Thursday 25 March at Gateshead Stadium.
The Tyne and Wear Final comprised of the top two schools from each of the five Tyne and Wear Local Authority areas (Gateshead, Newcastle, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Sunderland).
Newbottle were drawn against Kings (North Tyneside) and St Peter & Paul (South Tyneside) in thier first round matches and lost to Kings 5 - 2 and beat St Peter & Paul 2 -1. They then progressed to the fourth to sixth play off where they beat Cullercoats (North Tyneside) 3 - 0 and Farne (Newcastle) 3 - 0 to ensure fourth place.
East Herrington were drawn against Fellside (Gateshead) and Farne (Newcastle)in thier first round matches and lost to Fellside 5 - 0 and Farne 2 - 1. They then progressed to the seventh to ninth play off where they lost to Washingwell (Gateshead) 2 - 0 and drew with St Peter & Paul (South Tyneside) 1 - 1 to gain ninth place.
The eventual Tyne and Wear winners were Kings (North Tyneside) with second place going to Fellside (Gateshead) and third place to St Aloysius (South Tyneside).
