Sunderland School Sport Partnership Triathlon and Legacy Events hailed a great successes
Sunderland School Sport Partnership successfully hosted two major sports events on Wednesday 30 June 2010 at the Sunderland Tennis Centre which involved over 500 young people from schools across
The Triathlon event was a first for the Sunderland School Sport Partnership and saw 50 teams competing across three different age groups.
The day’s results included:
Year 6
1st – St Michael’s, 2nd Newbottle and 3rd George Washington A
Year 7/8
1st - Biddick A, 2nd Biddick B and 3rd Farringdon A
Year 9/10
1st – Red House Academy, 2nd Farringdon A and 3rd Houghton Kepier

At the same time as the triathlon the Legacy Event took place with nine invited primary schools taking part in the sports of Fencing, Table Tennis, Tennis and a Training Workshop (with a Paralympic / Olympic theme).
The Triathlon and Legacy Event were run in partnership with Sunderland School Sport Partnership, Sunderland School Competition Manager, Sunderland City Council, Sun City Triathlon Club, Tri Hard, Sunderland Bike Project, British Triathlon, British Fencing, English Table Tennis Association and Sunderland Tennis Development Officer, Young Ambassadors and Sports Leaders.
Both events were also kindly supported by Sainsbury’s Silksworth Lane store that recognise the values of being healthy and taking part in Sport and Physical activities.
These new and exciting events were Sunderland School Sport Partnerships showcase events during the Lloyds TSB National Schools Sports Week and are legacy events linked to the Sainsbury’s UK School Games due to be held in Sunderland / Gateshead/ Newcastle from 2 – 5 September this year.
Due to both events being hailed as a great success next years date will soon be set.
