Playground To Podium

What Is Playground To Podium?

'Playground To Podium' is the new national strategy for the identification, development and support of talented young disabled athletes, devloped by the Youth Sport trust, Sport England, UK Sport and the British Paralympic Assciation.

What Is The Aim Of The Playground To Podium?

The ultimate aim of this pathway is to produce our next paralympians and elite daisbled athletes. However it is essential that all young disabled people are able to take part in high quality provision of their choice.

What Does It Look Like In Sunderland?

Within Sunderland we currently fund three Multi Skill clubs (primary) and three Multi Sport Clubs (Secondary).

These are currently situated within mainstream schools and are supported by Partnership coaches. It is hoped that young people from across the city will be identified and invited to attend these sessions.

In addition Talent identification days have been planned throughout the year, giving children from across the city a chance to compete and take part in a range of activity. From these days, the most promising young people will be identified.

At present we offer a range of CPD for staff working with young people with disability. Further CPD opportunities will be made available so identification could be done on any school site.

The end result is the very best young talent being selected to attend county assessment days where Nation Governing Bodies of sport will deliver activities designed at spotting the best talent from the area.
