Sport Unlimited

Sport Unlimited is funding that has been targetted at our KS3/4 and 5 young people who enjoy sport but may not particiape as often as they could. To help them become interested in regularly participating in physical activity, funding has been supplied by Sport England to run targetted activities. Across Sunderland the School Sport Partnerships, the City of Sunderland College, Sunderland University and Sport and Leisure work together to provide as many opportunities as possible to engage our young people as possible.

After consultation with our Young People Sunderland currently provide the follwing.

  • A Cheerleading project open to all Secondary schools in the city, culminating in a regional competition held annually.

  • A club transition project, aimed at Y6 and Y7 children who will recieve coaching from a local club and then be encouraged to continue participating in a community setting.

  • A gym transition project aimed at introducing our young people to localfitness centres and become familiar with the equipment and the setting. Incentives to join the gym or attend regular sessions are also offered.

  • Outdoor and Adventuourous activities that have been organised with Sunderland climbing wall and the Marine centre. In collaboration with the University we are encouraging students to attend university clubs and organisations.

Our projects so far all offer the opportunity for extended activity after the initial activity comes to an end. We always try to offer links to where continuous provision currently takes place.
